The Head Office of Swedbank in Vilnius
Decision to construct a new building of Swedbank in Vilnius was made because the units of the head office of the bank, its regional branch of Vilnius and administrations of subsidiaries were scattered as many as in 9 buildings located in different places of Vilnius and their administration was not efficient enough. Therefore it was decided to look for a new solution and to mobilise all units under one roof of a new and modern building.
22 projects participated in the competition organised by the Lithuanian Union of Architect in spring of 2005. The jury consisting of the representatives of the bank and independent architects selected 3 winners. After negotiations which were later continued with the winners of the first and second place one project developed by the group of architects led by Audrius Ambrasas was recognised as best satisfying conditions of the competition.
The complex of the building consists of two higher interconnected buildings and a lower building which faces the river. This project was selected mainly because, compared with other projects, it was best integrated with the environment both, with regard to Konstitucijos Avenue and neighbouring buildings, and in terms of harmony with nature – the bed of the Neris and adjacent slope. Furthermore, this project was prepared very professionally and was distinguished for inventive solutions – the pedestrian avenue leading from the Central Department Store is also creatively integrated with the entire complex of buildings.
