Starting from today, Hansabankas customers can open their securities accounts with Hansabankas via internet, i.e. by using Hansabankas internet banking application, hanza.net. Therefore, Hansabankas has become the first bank in this country to have launched such a service to its clientele.
Until recently, customers could open securities accounts over-the-counter at Hansabankas branches only. The new possibility streamlines investment procedures for customers buying and selling shares, funds units and other investment-related products.
Says Igoris Ryklys, Director of Investment Product Sales Management Department of Hansabankas: "Interest in investment business is on an ongoing rise in this country, and more and more customers are choosing to carry out their securities deals (sell or buy securities), view securities portfolio’s movements and receive, each morning, investment reviews via the hanza.net application. A possibility of opening of securities accounts via internet is believed to be convenient to those customers who have failed to find free time for visiting a bank branch in the past".
The opening of securities account via hanza.net takes a few minutes. All the hanza.net user has to do is to choose his/her bank account that will "feed" the securities account and indicate his/her marital status. Indication of marital status is obligatory since Lithuanian laws require that whenever customers enter into securities sale deals, they must present their spouses letters of consent to a bank branch staff.
If the holder of a securities account opened via hanza.net is unmarried, he/she may immediately start managing the securities at his/her sole discretion. However, if he/she is married, he/she is allowed to enter into securities purchase deals only, meaning that in the case of securities sale deals, he/she must o n c e present his/her spouse’s letter of consent to a bank branch staff.
