Hansabankas is The Most Desirable Employer in Lithuania

Hansabankas became Lithuania’s most desirable employer in the fourth annual survey organised by the business daily Verslo Žinios.

Chairman of the Board Giedrius Dusevičius says that the objective to become the most attractive employer has been in the strategic plans of the bank since 2004. Since then, the bank has been constantly moving closer to the goal.

"Why do we have this objective? There are two reasons for this. First of all, the business of providing services is the business of people. The quality of our services directly depends on the qualification of our employees. And defects made by them are not easily corrected, differently from the manufacturing sector. Therefore, if we want to be the best in the market, we have to attract the best employees. And the best employees go to the best employers", says Giedrius Dusevičius.

Much has been done in order to achieve this objective. But, according to Saulius Būdvytis, Head of the Personnel Department of Hansabankas, still a lot remains to be done.

"Maybe only our understanding about it has changed somewhat. The main point for us is that the organisation, similarly to a person, would have its own individually and would be mature. We seek to become such a company which would be attractive for people having similar goals as those of Hansabankas", says Saulius Būdvytis.

According to him, in order to become the most attractive employer, first of all the organisation must have very clear, understandable and modern personnel management systems.

"We have well-functioning talents and activities management systems. We have also elaborated the system of incentives. Most attention has recently been paid to non-financial benefits. They are oriented towards balancing work and family, health care of employees. Another very important point is personality development. I personally have been working in the bank for 6 years already and I feel here best in comparison with all my previous jobs", says Saulius.

The bank also offers its employees international career possibilities while raising its, as employer’s, attractiveness.

"Here you can become an international player. We have very many projects which cover not only the banks in the Baltic States but also the banks of the whole group. Therefore, so to say, here it is easy to move from the Lithuanian Basketball League to the Euroleague", jokes Saulius.

The survey "Most Desirable Employer 2008" was performed by business daily Verslo Žinios, the public opinion and market research company TNS Gallup and the career website cv.lt. Results show that the most important criteria for choosing an employer are an attractive remuneration, social guarantees, reliable managers, a possibility to have an interesting job and evaluation of employees.

The survey was held in two stages: a representative survey of the Lithuanian population of 18 to 65 years old was performed by way of a direct interview and voting on the career website cv.lt. The total number of respondents in the 1st stage was 2,422 and in the 2nd stage — 1,799 respondents. The survey participants were asked to name the most desirable employers and to evaluate companies according to 19 criteria.
