Hansabankas and a non-government organization, Gelbekit Vaikus (Save the Children) started cooperation with the view to implementing one of this NGO’s main directions of program – "reduction of violence against children and decrease of children’s exploitation". This program, designed to deal with abuse and taunting/mocking of children at schools, is sponsored by a financial group, Swedbank, to which Hansabankas belongs too. The children’s abuse reduction projects that have been launched in Lithuania of late are in line with the general project being implemented by the said financial group in order to solve the abovementioned children’s problems in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Sweden.
According to latest findings of surveys conducted in the Baltic countries and Sweden, violence against children, abuse of children and their exploration is a very sore problem. This in mind, Swedbank started cooperating with a non-government organization, Save the Children to implement a project aimed at creating for children a safe environment at schools and communities and involving children into social life.
Says Giedrius Dusevicius, Chairman of Board of Hansabankas: "This problem ignores countries’ frontiers. This in mind, we are supporting this international initiative in a pro-active way. We believe that our Bank and Save the Children organization will contribute to the reduction of violence against children. Therefore, we must do everything possible so that our children could grow and learn in a safe environment, without any stresses and psychological pressures. By doing so, we can raise a creative and full-hearted generation".
Says Rasa Dicpetriene, Executive Director of Save the Children: "We are glad to have started joint activities in conjunction with Hansabankas whose employees intend to be actively involved into the implementation of one of our main programs by participating in a number of social events/campaigns and contributing to dissemination of information in Lithuania on protection of children’s rights. Our concerted forces and efforts are aimed at achieving of our common aim – to realize children’s rights to be protected from violence".
Save the Children and Hansabankas are planning to continue paying the society’s attention to violence against children and their taunting/mocking at home and school, increasing awareness of violence manifestations, disseminating information on children’s rights, forming a negative approach to violence and fostering mutual respect and cooperation principles. To achieve these objectives, Save the Children organization’s Children’s Day Care Centers and Anti-violence Groups will continue their activities all over Lithuania by arranging workshops and training sessions for heads of the said centers and groups on such issues as human (children’s) rights and development of children and by preparing training materials (publications) on preemption of violence against children and provision of help to the harmed children. The social action, No To Violence Against Children, initiated by the Save the Children organization in conjunction with Lithuanian Social Security and Labor Ministry for the fifth consecutive year, will continue too.
